There are different forms of a vegan diet, but the most basic is simply a diet without meat, fish, eggs or dairy products. A vegan diet is thus a plant-based diet. Vegan food is made up of vegetables and fruit, nuts, seeds and legumes. Most vegans will also eat foods made from vegan ingredients, such as tofu, pasta and bread. Alternatives to dairy products can be found in a range of other milks made from nuts or soya.
Although it sounds limiting to some, it’s often a great surprise to non-vegans when they discover how much vegan produce they eat on a daily basis. All the vitamins, minerals and calories we need can easily be gotten through a vegan diet.
