WHAT IS INTERMITTENT FASTING?

Intermittent fasting is the practice of taking long breaks in eating (usually from late afternoon until late morning). The practice of intermittent fasting has been shown to improve overall health as it gives the digestive system time to clean itself out. The body also has energy freed up from constant digestion to use for regeneration and healing.

People who practice intermittent fasting regularly report having more overall energy and better sleep. They also report that the practice takes a few days to get used to as the body is accustomed to eating at certain times of day. They say that once you push through that initial period of discomfort, the practice because quite easy and even intuitive.

Some researches say that the practice of intermittent fasting actually mimics the way evolving humans lived for millions of years before the modern era. During times when food had to be prepared daily, most people worked in the fields, foraged, or hunted early in the morning. It was only later, towards midday when eating actually took place.

Scientists have also discovered that human metabolism is at its highest during the midday hours and that those hours are the best for eating the bulk of your daily calories. An interesting fact is that in the East, some sects of Buddhist monks have practiced intermittent fasting for thousands of years – only taking some tea and crackers before sundown and not eating again until late morning.

HOW DOES A DETOX RETREAT SUPPORT MY HEALTH AND WELLNESS?

The body has four primary processes when it comes to nutrients. These four are: Digestion, Absorption, Utilization, and Elimination. If any of these four processes are impaired, the body’s health with suffer. If this sewer system backs up, it starts to affect the other nutrient processes in the body. The ability to utilize nutrients becomes impaired when toxicity builds up and negatively affects the endocrine glands and major organs of the body. It also affects gut health and the buildup of toxins in your digestive tract creates both absorption and digestion problems.
