Through travel I first became aware of the outside world; it was through travel that I found my own introspective way into becoming a part of it.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT WELLNESS TRADITIONS CAN I FIND IN SRI LANKA?

Sri Lanka firmly believes in a holistic approach to wellness, with a balance of the mental, physical and spiritual forms being of equal importance. Along with the practice of yoga and meditation, the country has a host of ancient Hindu and Buddhist sites and a landscape offering the tranquility required for any wellness getaway. The practice of Ayurveda is also strong in Sri Lanka, with plants used to make natural medicines for a variety of health conditions, as well as to keep the body and mind in optimum condition.

WHY TRAVEL TO SRI LANKA?

Sri Lanka is a beautiful wellness destination. The combination of mountains, rainforests, lush beaches and wildlife makes the country a visual feast and an outdoor paradise. Safari excursions can introduce you to the likes of elephants, leopards, buffalos and monkeys. Take a sailing trip and you can see dolphins and whales in clear blue waters. The island has many of the famous traits of India but is less densely populated, offering a more laidback vibe than can be found in the major Indian cities.

Being so close to India, yoga is an important tradition in Sri Lanka too and you’ll find the practice – along with meditation – to be ingrained in local culture. As with the Indian traditions of yoga, there is more of a focus on the meditative side of things. Positions are held for longer than in the kind of yoga you may have experienced in the west. Rather than it being a mainly physical activity, yoga here is as much for the mind as for the body.

WHAT'S THE WEATHER LIKE IN SRI LANKA?

It’s pretty hot all year round in Sri Lanka, with average temperatures around 24 degrees. Depending where you are on the island, you can experience warm, sunny weather all year round. It’s worth being aware of the two monsoons which hit the island at different times of year. The western monsoon brings wet weather from April to June, whereas the eastern monsoon comes in November and lasts until January.
