Sri Lanka is a beautiful wellness destination. The combination of mountains, rainforests, lush beaches and wildlife makes the country a visual feast and an outdoor paradise. Safari excursions can introduce you to the likes of elephants, leopards, buffalos and monkeys. Take a sailing trip and you can see dolphins and whales in clear blue waters. The island has many of the famous traits of India but is less densely populated, offering a more laidback vibe than can be found in the major Indian cities.
Being so close to India, yoga is an important tradition in Sri Lanka too and you’ll find the practice – along with meditation – to be ingrained in local culture. As with the Indian traditions of yoga, there is more of a focus on the meditative side of things. Positions are held for longer than in the kind of yoga you may have experienced in the west. Rather than it being a mainly physical activity, yoga here is as much for the mind as for the body.
